Like google says "Eggs certainly came before chickens, but chicken eggs did not—you can't have one without the other. However, if we absolutely had to pick a side, based on the evolutionary evidence, we're on Team Egg."
1
dinosaurs layed eggs so...
1
what ever was before the chicken it slowly evolved into the chicken so chicken
1
If there are eggs first who laid them? So yeah, chickens.
1
Hang on... I like to eat chickens and eggs... i feel sorry for all the minecraft chickens and real chickens that get put on dinner plates.
1
Or, because dinosaurs are bird's ancestors, I think one dinosaur type may have evolved into a chicken.
So I'm saying chicken.
So I'm saying chicken.
1
there are 2 ways you can look at it
1 The egg hatched the chick who became a chicken or
2 The chicken lay the egg
1 The egg hatched the chick who became a chicken or
2 The chicken lay the egg
1
neither
2
So in a nutshell (or an eggshell, if you like), two birds that weren't really chickens created a chicken egg, and hence, we have an answer: The egg came first, and then it hatched a chicken.
1
everyone choose chicken to spite the liberals
only imposters choose egg
Don't be sus, choose chimkon
only imposters choose egg
Don't be sus, choose chimkon
1
chimkon????

I don't know why I'm only seeing this now, but at least I've seen it now.
Anyway, to answer the question, the egg always comes first, and that's not up for debate. If we're talking about eggs in general, then the answer is the egg because animals have been laying eggs since long before chickens existed. But if we're talking about something more specific and saying that the egg must be a chicken egg, then the answer is still the egg because the chickens we know today are simply a domesticated subspecies of the red junglefowl from Southeast Asia (although, grey, Sri Lankan and green junglefowl have also made some contributions to the domestic chicken's gene pool). Oh, and if you're curious and would like to read about the red junglefowl yourself or if you just think I've made that up, you can read about it here.
So there you have it, folks. The egg is the only true answer to this question, no matter how you choose to look at it.

This is hilarious. We're all assertive amateurs.

1
it was a good run. maybe ill increase the time to see if more people vote/change their minds
3
the dying soul.
that's what came first.
that's what came first.
5
I mean Dinosaurs laid eggs and chicken supposedly descend from dinos (been a while may be not true anymore), so eggs were around long before chickens..
3
I totallly agree
4
EGG OBVIOUSLY >:P
2
agreed.
3
I forgot if I made a comment on this before :')
anyway here's my answer (pls dont be offended if you believe that chickens were created and thus came first!! this is just evolutionarily what most likely happened ^^ i respect all opinions)
The egg came first. How? Let's think.
When chickens evolved, there were two, chicken-like (but not QUITE chickens) birds. These two had an egg. This egg had a mutation which resulted in a chicken being inside. So when their egg hatched, it was a chicken.
Therefore, the egg came first :]

Neither, it is the Chegg. The entity that produced one of each at the start of time.
2
The chicken, because if there were no chickens before, who should have laid the egg? Noone knows how the Creation of new spezies works, but I think there came a chicken first.
3
Where would the chicken have come from, though?
The chicken egg was mutated-
The chicken egg was mutated-
3
what averyviolets said. chickens evolved from something, and that something had to lay an egg that became a chicken.
1
the poll is lying
1
Its actually the egg and not chicken
1
god made the egg to make chickens
1
Birds sit on their eggs to keep them warm. If there were no chickens and the egg was created by itself, how would the egg have survived?
2
If there's anything that makes even less sense than either evolution or creationism, it's theistic evolution.
5
I say the egg. If you think about evolution, at one pint, a non-chicken laid the first true chicken egg, after very long time. So, the egg came first.
3
eggi boi
4
Obviously chicken because i'm gonna be that creationist
5
SCIENCE HAS SPOKEN
science: the egg came first
science: the egg came first
3
the T. rex came first and laid a egg which hatched into a chicken so egg
5
Technically not but I can’t argue with it cuz that’s also my logic lol
2
boop
5
There really is no good answer to this. Technically, the egg came first if you're talking about a baby chick, but the chicken came first if you're... talking about an egg-
*headache*
