Yea, Lan is currently broken. I have had the same problem. I think they might not be updating it in the newer versions. Have you tried playing older versions with your friend?

When it comes to LAN worlds.
You both have to be under the same wifi/internet connection.
If its not connected through the same internet connection, it will not work!
