Minecraft fps drops to 0 then back to 100+ and then back to 0

So when i play minecraft on any server my fps randomly drops to 0 for like 1 second then it goes back to normal and it just repeats this. I presed f3 and noticed that those lines in the left sie were bigger when lagging. How to fix

This is just on servers, not singleplayer? Could just be bad internet. The graph on the f3 screen is just an indication of framerate, so it's just telling you exactly what you already know, that your fps is dropping.
