What the heck is Minecraft Realms?

I'm kind of doing this Thread for other people mostly because as I am a 10 year old I have some money from my birthday and christmas now and again but I don't think Id'e be using much money on Buying a realm. Back to the subject, I just made it 1.7.5 and therefore I can click the magnificent button, The Minecraft Realms Button. I clicked it. I could see other things too but also at the bottom Cancel and Buy Realm. I quickly made an assumption that it was real life money because Minecraft money doesn't exist. I just want to find out what to do if I buy a Realm. Please tell me!

Maybe you haven't noticed but you can only get to your server through his launcher. He made the previous one redundant as soon as he took over from notch.

Just wait and see what happens. Once Realms takes hold he will stop all other Minecraft activity so there will be no bukkit servers allowed and all large servers (50 -1000 or even more) will cease to exist. He wants to control your game and if you decide to let him he will charge you dearly for it.
Realms is a thinly disguised con. There is no consideration for the players who have already made him a rich man. This greed is astounding.

Do you even know what you're talking about? He can't stop bukkit? I mean, I guess he could stop supporting dedicated servers in a update, but all past version will still and always work?

Realms is a one way money funnel for a very greedy little man who just can't get enough. He has ruined a once fabulous and beautiful game and made it into a dirty little commercial enterprise for his own financial gain and with no consideration for the wonderful people who love to congregate and be good friends in a safe and awesome environment. Shame on you, you grabbing, disgusting little person. I hope everyone sees through you and moves on to better things.

No? It's not forced on anyone to buy it? It's an easier way for people to have a server? It's being helpful, not hurting anyone at all...

Personally, I find realms is just an expensive way of doing exactly what hamachi and a whitelisted server can get you. The only positive I see is that its up 24/7. But me and my fiends can work round that simply by having the person who stays up till 12 every night host the server XD

13 dollars isn't "expensive". It also supports 10 people, unlike hamachi. And it stays up 24/7 so any of the 20 people you selected can get on at any time. And it's easier for people because:
No hardware strains
No server setup files
Easy way to invite friends.
It's a really good idea for people that don't want to mess with servers.

mcprohosting is so over priced. You can get cheaper hosts anyways. And Realms will be a whole lot more simpler, it's just clicking, and its up, no editing whitelists, plugins, motd, it's all in the realms menu. For around 13-14 dollars a month, 10 players on at once. It's a whole lot simpler than hosts.

Minecraft Realms are for people who put their trust in mojang more so than minecraft hosts, to put some statistics on it, it's very rare that a minecraft server host has less than 99% uptime, whereas minecraft logins have an uptime of around 90%...

Realms so far has around a 98% Uptime. So that's good

Its basically your own private vanilla server but you choose what players you want to invite.

Minecraft Realms... is a type of cow?... that you eat with eggs? Nah I'm joking. Minecraft Realms is basically just a normal server hosted by Mojang themselves. This server has a set amount of RAM and a set amount of player slots; I think you can purchase more though. This server is made private to the purchaser in which he/she has full control over. The owner can invite his/her friends to play with them. Hope I helped.

I can't port forward on mine because when I do I can't see the server on my ip

The Minigames idea is epic but I suspect you can port forward quite easily? I have never EVER been a server owner so I don't know.

But still it is public so you don't need to port forward

Yeah 1.7.5 adds mini game feature which you can play mini games like block vs zombies by sethbling

Minecraft realm is just an easy way to create a public vanilla server which only people you invite can play with you. You can stop it anytime and it will be always online for your friends and you. Maybe checkout sethblings video about the minecraft realms
