Just messing around with my profile and wondering what the Supporting Site widget does, does it post an ad of sorts on your profile?

The supporting site puts an ad on your profile page. Since PMC is a free to use website, it makes money to stay up via ads. Putting the widget on your profile page helps PMC remain up and free to use.

Is there a way to get rid of it in time? Like based on how popular you get?
