I'm trying to make a dimension using a datapack, but I can't get it to work. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong that others are doing right... Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
JW

Go to the logs folder in .minecraft and open up the latest log. It actually shows you some pretty useful debug messages about what it expected and what is missing in your json files.

Oh, sweet! Thanks, I will definitely use that!

Remove the comma after "type": "minecraft:flat".

Hmm... That would seem to be a problem, but alas that didn't fix it... :(

Ok, I compared your superflat dimension with mine again, and I found some more differences.

-In dimension type, I have entries for "piglin_safe" and "infiniburn". Maybe you need them too.
-I also have spaces after all my colons. Maybe that matters.

Also, I know for a fact you don't need to list air. The game will automatically place air above all the listed layers. However, I doubt it's an actual problem. I've seen superflats with gaps in the middle.

In Json, spaces never matter.

Thanks for the tip. I wasn't entirely sure how the grammar worked.

I added the "piglin_safe" and "infiniburn" and that seems to have worked! :D

For the air, I'm specifying there to be air below the bedrock. Minecraft wants you to flip your world upside down in the code.

Lol, I forgot the upside down part, and I was looking at mine the whole time.

At least we figured out the problem.

I think this is the problem. Also, don't call your folder "custom" - it works but the name should be unique, like your data pack namespace is.

Ah, I see, luckily "custom" was a placeholder. Their actual names are more unique.

Funnily enough, today was the first time I really got into custom dimensions.
I think the file locations and the dimensions_type file are correct. But I think the custom dimensions file has some errors.
I recommend using the website misode.github.io/worldgen/, there you can easily create your own dimensions. Just delete the normal dimensions and replace everything after the "type": with your dimension type. So not
"type": {
  "ultrawarm": false,
  "natural": true,
  "shrunk": false,
  "ambient_light": 0,
  "has_skylight": true,
  "has_ceiling": false
}
but "type": "custom:dim".

Sadly, that didn't work.
