Beginning of Minecraft vs now

Hello!
I just came back to minecraft after not playing for a few months to check out all the big dicussion of horses, new blocks, etc.
I literally took a good ten minutes to just look around shocked like I remember when I first bought minecraft (2009 christmas) which was around alpha and just to look around now (2014) im just like woah..
Its still awesome but its just like odd to look at minecraft first getting it to now. Am I the only one that looks at it this way? and does anyone have any experiences of it?

I remember getting the game in beta 1.4 before even weather was added. As it got updated though, it slowly got laggier and laggier for me up until 1.7 where it became unplayable. I just stick to the old versions now...
