If they allowed you to change your name, you'd get un banned from servers unless your IP is banned on that server. I own a server and have tested this.

they need to make it so you can change your name once and you should keep your id and such so you stay an op and stay banned on servers and stuff.

Or they could do what Xbox Live does, allowing the player to only change their username once. After that a small fee will have to be paid in order to change the player's name again (i.e $5, $10, etc.).

Bypassing bans... NO. Operators option, maybe.

This could by pass ban lists, and annoy server owners. It should not be implemented, maybe nicknames, but not changing names permanently. By nicknames I mean like you do on servers. This would also confuse players and whitelists. It could also be used for trollers or griefers...

I guess this is a good way for griefers to troll you though. But still, it's a good idea!

I think that back in the Beta and Alpha, most - if not all - people created usernames in the light that it would be purely a login ID rather than a display name and that has led people to a stump. The solution to that problem was buying another copy of the game. Only recently Mojang added in a feature where when you make an account it says (Username & Display name) and so i think people are now thinking more.
Everybody in this forum is correct:
- there needs to be a username change feature
- it needs to have an ID as Deth_Glitch pointed out
- it needs to have a 'cooldown' time so people think when they create their name (2 or 3 months is good)
- it needs to be like steam (Pln99) where you have a login, and a display name
- it needs to have a way of finding out their original Display name.

This update is needed badly, for the reason ubove.
Lets hope we atleast get one chance to change so mistakes are covered.

i get you but it will need to be hexidecimal (alphanumeric / both letters and numbers) so that there wil be enough for each char and not guessable for hackers also there should be the ID code somewhere you can see it so you can easily bann people

Mojang needs to do it like how Runescape does it. You can change it once every 30 days, and if you hover your mouse over the name it shows last previous name.
