Did you hear? Minecraft forums is stopping! ;o
Quite shocked to read this but it is very real: Minecraft Forum is going from an active website to archive-only. 😱
Just as I started using it again here and there. 😓 This announcement came to me as a total surprise.
Have some good memories on there. Started my first skin shop and learned the basics of skin making from it. Ay, feels.
😖
Today we are announcing that we have made the difficult decision to transition the Minecraft Forum from an active website to a read-only archive. This decision has been made after careful consideration about how we can best serve the Minecraft community with the resources we have available. A read-only archive of the website will ensure that the valuable content contributed over many years is safe-guarded, remaining available for visitors to explore.

citricsquid on the Forums:
This is a business decision, not a personal decision. This decision was made when weighing up the value we can provide to the community and the value we can generate as a business against the costs of that value. Although we'd love to be able to allow the forum to continue to run as-is under someone else's control, the costs associated with that mean it unfortunately is not viable. The forum loses money and, as you're aware from the previous ownership transfer, there's a lot of complexity in terms of transferring ownership of data. The decision we've made is the best we can come up with in terms of balancing the community needs (retaining access to a decade of Minecraft history) vs. the business need.

Sounds like corporate public relations mumbo jumbo excuses. Criticsquid's statement makes way more sense.
But Minecrafters still have Planet Minecraft & Reddit & Discord & other places that serve the same function.

MCF was dead anyway. They had already chocked it to death some time ago.
1
Then it somehow revived and died again.
2
Well, everything must come to an end at some point, I wish that I could log onto my old account and make one last post.
1
No.😑
1
bruh rip pm forums, it was good while it lasted.

this is a bit absurd, but i guess we have to move on.
2
Hey, is this real because it looks real.
1
Very real.
1
Well I guess I'm gonna hvae to post something there in order to be archived lol

hey i need some buddys to play with me on ps4, wanna make a huge city with everyone owning their own houses, and building cool structures together. add me and drop your names so i can add you back :) :M1SS-KING
3
Yeah, it's what made me come here and make a new account since I couldn't get back into the one I made about 5 years back. Might as well start trying to interact with the community more because it never hit me how old Minecraft is until that announcement came out of the blue. RIP MCF.

Weird part is, Minecraft Forum owns Minecraft Wiki
2
Yup, Wikia & Fandom Games. I really can't see Wikia shutting down a wiki for the "2nd best selling game of all time after Tetris," so that at least will be safe.
4
The wiki wouldn't be closed as it is still used regularly
2
NO! **jumps out window**
2
I feel like the biggest change here is going to be how shader packs are going to end up needing their own section or they'll litter PMC.
3
aaahh dangit... well, thats completely understandable. does this mean that the pixel art shop i've been hosting for while should be taken down? i don't want to lose my progress and i can always host elsewhere.
4
You could host it somewhere else, such as on pmc, and then have a link to the new shop on mcf - you don't have to take it down or anything. Minecraft forums will remain archived, so people might still see your shop on there. The link to your new active shop will then guide them towards your current pixel art shop.
1
ahh yeah thats a good plan! the comments section didn't have much to do with my shop anyway (since pms are really all you need) so i might not even have to do anything ^^ i'll slowly make my way to the minecraft forums though so i can learn more about it anyway xD thanks for the help! <3

goodluck with making your shop here!

Been signed up since January 2012 on MCF, it has been my primary resource for servers, mods & texture packs. Even in early 2011, when I started playing Minecraft and was looking for ways to improve my gameplay experience.
In the last 3 years it has become less and less active imo.
I'm happy to have signed up on PMC tho:)!
I've always seen many talented skin makers on here.

Yeah... it sucks. To be entirely honest, that's why I came back here. I forgot this website existed and damn, I love it.

I bet ya dollars to donuts that the Feed the Beast forums are next. Mods haven't policed the forum in many months, they haven't added new news posts to the front page in over a year (since FTB Continuum), and I even made a post calling out the team for it and no one responded. Is it possible Microsoft is trying to "choke out" the "other versions?"
1
Personally I think Microsoft is trying to prioritize Bedrock edition over anything else. But I don't think they're deliberately, directly breaking up those forums. 🤔 But the way you put it I could imagine FTB people moving to PMC as well eventually. We'll see what happens.
In any case I have good trust that PMC will stick around for a long time to come. 😁

Migrated here from MCF. First post!

Ah welcome here :D I hope you'll enjoy this place.

Why do you think I'm here?
4
Because we've got cookies? 😅🍪🍪🍪

This is awkward... I got donuts. xD
3
I got muffins.

Dang... That's actually kind of sad! What's worse is that it's where the More Player Models mod originated, and I won't be able to know when it's been updated to 1.13.2 or not! Though I have never used the forums in my life, it will forever be missed, even though it still kind of exists as an archived site now. ;~;
Also, now that PMC is going to get a huge traffic spike, I'm just hoping this site will be well-managed so that the site doesn't crash, and won't get sold to some rich butthole, because the more something gets popular, it will most likely be bought out by a big corporation, but I put my trust in Cyprezz and Paril to follow their heart and never give this site away if that happens.

Eli the Zeratoed I wouldn't be surprised if that mod maker would post to either PMC or Curse. Google will probably be your friend to find any updates for it in the future.
I also very much trust in the admins that PMC will be fine 😊 as well as in moderators who I am sure can deal with the influx. Meanwhile I try to help too by answering questions new members may have. 😁 I've never gotten the impression that Cyprezz manages this site primarily for mony. Community is the most important thing here. 💗

Well, at least I'll be safe knowing that the wonderful moderators and admins of PMC will be able to take care of any traffic problems and not sell this glorious site to some snooty rich guy like what kind of happened to MCF and what lead to their downfall (The moderators and admins over there never asked for this business decision to be made...).
Also, I do check the modder's Curse page every once in a while to check for updates (Even though the last update was for 1.12.2 on January 2018), but would be cool if he appeared on PMC as well. :3

So, I've been using MCF for a while to advertise my server, and it's been the #1 forum to bring in mass amounts of traffics (view here) because of being able to have the page bumped whenever someone applied for whitelist or left a review. Is there somewhere else I can do this?
2
The server listing on PMC is only a base for sharing your servers on PMC. Votes bump it up the list, but it's hard to get at the top-voted ones.
You can use a forum thread on the servers section. Personally I think most server owners don't make great use of that section these days. Most threads just aren't formatted and looked after all that well. 😅 You could use that to accept whitelist applications. 😊 It'll bump your thread on "Feed" and "Active" just like you're used to on the Minecraft Forums.
The section is currently quite.. quiet. But I can imagine it seeing more traffic soon now that the Minecraft Forums are closing down.
Something that works quite nicely, and a feature you don't see on the Minecraft Forums, is that members of your site can make "server submissions" where they submit a project which is built on the server, and interlinks it with the server listing. Here's an example of what that looks like.
These projects can get featured on the Popular Reel (dynamic banner) on the top of the site, and bring attention to your server. :)
Other things you could do are; make wallposts about happenings on your server, write blogs with screenshots, organize events and post about those in the events section of the forums.. The possibilities are great, really. 😊
