Hi, My name is Ozana!

I have been playing a Modded Survival server where the economy heavily depends on Mining so I was wondering, Is there really much of a difference between Fortune I, II, and III? So I went into a singleplayer world, mined 100 Diamond Ore with Each Fortune Level and here are the results.

And a side note: This is based on 100 Diamond Ores. If I were to mine 1 million Diamond Ores, the percentage would be more accurate. But based on 100 Diamond Ores, the percentage is accurate enough to make an educated decision on which one is better.

So this table shows how many Diamonds I received for every row of 10 Diamond I mined. (10 Columns x 10 Rows = 100) There are 34 2’s here and 66 1’s here. The total amount of Diamonds I got from this was 134. To calculate the average amount of diamonds per ore I get, I do 134/100 and get 1.34.

For Fortune I, the average amount of Diamond Per Ore is 1.34 instead of 1.00 (Better than No Fortune. So instead of One Diamond, you have a Chance of Two.)

Again, This table shows how many Diamonds I received for every row of 10 Diamond I mined. (10 Columns x 10 Rows = 100) There are 26 3’s, 27 2’s and 47 1’s. The total amount of Diamonds I got from this was 179. To calculate the average amount of diamonds per ore I get I do 179/100 and get 1.79.

For Fortune II, the average amount of Diamond Per Ore is 1.79 instead of 1.00 (Better than No Fortune and .45 better than Fortune I. Fortune II also gives the chance of 2 and 3 Diamonds.)

Again, This table shows how many Diamonds I received for every row of 10 Diamond I mined. (10 Columns x 10 Rows = 100) There are 44 1’s, 15 2’s, 25 3’s and 15 4’s. The total amount of Diamonds I got from this was 209. To calculate the average amount of diamonds per ore I get I do 209/100 and get 2.09.

For Fortune II, the average amount of Diamond Per Ore is 1.79 instead of 1.00 (Better than No Fortune and .35 better than Fortune II, and .80 better than Fortune I. Fortune III also gives the chance of 2, 3 and 4 Diamonds.)

So, In conclusion… If you are on the edge of your mind trying to decide whether or not to wait for Fortune III instead of getting Fortune II, Definitely wait for Fortune 3, you have an average of about 2 Diamonds per ore which is Double Normal and you have the chance of getting 4 diamonds from one ore instead of 3.

Fortune I: 1.34 Diamonds Per Ore.
Fortune II: 1.79 Diamonds Per Ore.
Fortune III: 2.09 Diamonds Per Ore.

Fortune III is the way to go. Minecraft doesn’t lie to you. The higher the better.

This took like 30 mins so don’t say that I have no life or i’m sorry for your suffering.

It wasn’t that bad. All of this information that I recorded is accurate from In-Game but the percentages are just an average and averages change depending on how many tests you do. If I were to do 1 million blocks as a test, the Percentage would be different. But this is just an approximation which does, even though it is a Percentage based on a limited number of Tests, show you which Fortune is better and how much better.

**Note:** This amount may vary if you use plugins like MCMMO which increase your drop chances to Double the normal and Even Triple.
