Changing usernames

We do not yet support changing or editing usernames, though this is planned for the future. We do not have a set release date for this feature. Make sure that you choose wisely, as your username will be used for your multiplayer persona and is visible to others.

As of Minecraft version 1.7, servers will be equipped to use players' unique UUIDs. This means that when a player is banned from a server, they will remain banned even if their username changes. Additional changes will be made to servers and accounts before username changes are available.

Due to the extra features in Mojang accounts, if you would like to change your username in the future, your Minecraft username will need to be on a Mojang account. If you currently log into the game with your username, you can migrate to a Mojang account at account.mojang.com/migrate.

If I remember right, when I bought my minecraft a while ago it was all like "choose a good username because you won't be able to change it" and all that. I could be wrong. I mean if you were desperate enough you could buy another minecraft. But, I don't think anyone would go that far.

You must not understand how this works. There is no way to change your Minecraft username. There won't be a way to change your minecraft user name for a while because then that would entirely mess up servers with system bans and they would have to rethink that all over again. If you want a different name pay for another account simple.

Don't listen to that. If you reset your account you'll have to buy a new one.

2. resetting your account would not clear data off your LOCAL drive on your PC/Mac
3. currently there is no name change, but the code for it is starting and I believe it will be a paid service... BUT when they put it in sure hope it doesn't mess with ban files on servers

I'm pretty sure it's impossible to change your name as of 1.7.2. I've been hearing about username changing, and I see that they have already added the ID thing in, because when people join my server I see an "ID" (only vanilla?).

I'm pretty sure it's 100% impossible to change your user name of Minecraft as of now.
