How do I install a mod?

I'm trying to install the content++ mod, but I'm having some problems. I downloaded 7-zip and opened minecraft.jar, but for some reason I cant put anything in it.

Try downloading winrar, extracting the mod files into the .jar?

From the mod post
1.Download Modloader and ModLoaderMp client.
2. Go to your start menu and type %APPDATA%
3. click on Roaming then .minecraft then bin.
4. Open the minecraft.jar with a program like winrar or 7zip.
5. Drag all the Modloader files in.
6. Drag all the ModloaderMp files in.
7. Drag all the files in the client folder of Content++ in.
8.Close all the windows and enjoy!

I know all these steps, but it doesn't let me put anything in the minecraft.jar
