Yeah, I remember playing in 1.0.0, and the terrain had a more "adventure-y" land. Now I seem to find an overabundance of hills and snow biomes.

I want the Alpha terrain back!

EDIT: Or at least an option to generate terrain like it was in Beta or Alpha without instilling any fancy mods.

I kinda agree with this thread, a bit more variety in the landscape makes gameplay way more interesting and challenging. The terrain could use better beaches, since many in real life are much broader and flatter than the ones Minecraft has to offer

Yes, Minecraft terrain has certainly lost it's "WOW" factor over time. 1.5 was really the last update with cool terrain.

Maybe only Maybe Jeb should make a option where you can select "Alpha terrain" , "Beta Terrain" or "Newest Terrain" A bit like that mod... whats it called again... ehmm.. i dont remember. ?

@everyone: I think we can agree that jungles need to get redone.

Personally, I don't "hate" the current terrain generation. It's ok. But I do like the terrain of the old early beta versions. The terrain was smooth and clean, lots of variety between the biomes, and beaches were very nice. Plus, the ocean terrain looked a lot nicer compared to what we have today (smoothed out, nicer looking terrain composed of dirt, compared to today's ocean terrain, which is extremely hilly, and composed of blotches of dirt/sand/clay that hurt your eyes to look at).

To be honest, I'd love to see something like in "Better World Generation 4"s default terrain. That's how it should look. Keeps the vanilla biomes, but adds lots of variety to the land, and makes everything look nice and neat. Though, I probably won't lose any sleep over it if Mojang decides never to change the terrain, haha.

Personally, if you want flat flat land, use super flat land, but there should be more biomes. Jungle here.. snow there.. meh. I know it was there, and I have nothing new to enjoy. Someplace maybe there's emeralds too, instead of just in extreme hills? A nicer place I'd like to see, like a common biome from extreme biomes mod maybe?

Most of us agree that the generator needs fixing, but we can't decide what about it. I've heard thatr 1.6 will overhaul all of the biomes. I don't know the new biomes, as the rumor is not detaildled enough. Post your comments on this.

If you want to live in a more varied environment, push F3 and start looking for ForestHills, TaigaHills, SnowHills, and similar Hill biomes. Not only are they hilly (duh), they usually contain ravines, lots of the larger oak trees, dirt archways, and sometimes things I call sinkholes (pits in the ground slightly covered in floating dirt). For an example of a ForestHills biome use the seed 20, my personal favorite seed.

I have yet to believe Minecraft's terrain generation is "boring". You can never have too many caves, hills, and mountians. You can have too many jungle biomes though....

Also, the pics of custom terrain is not what we want. But some of the hills are good examples for mojang.

your right, the caves are to big and there are to many of them, also i miss the beaches you used to spawn like in 1.7ish, in fact i preferred the 1.7ish world seeds more than what we got now

Well, Minecraft terrain is good, where you turn a corner and see a floating island, but I'd like to see a mountain again and at least some forest on those hills.

Why does everyone hate on jungles?

The terrain is always pissing me off.
All I want is to find a big, flat area to build a Village on and a smaller island nearby to build my house on. Yet all I find is these damn caves!
So, basically, I have the opposite problem. I keep finding things all the time, like Mineshafts.
And I'm also getting so sick, of these, damn stupid, Jungles and snow Biomes!

I don't think I'm going to get my dreamworld even started...

To those thinking the terrain is boring and/or repetitive perhaps you need to take a break from the game? People expect so much from something that started so simple. But that is what happens with a player base as massive as minecraft, more people complaining rather then praising.

Boring worlds except if you strike REALLY LUCKY which I am not.

Also, I was listening to the radio just now, and some guys were talking about it being possible to bring back dinosaurs and one said, "We can bring back dinosaurs, but should we?" and I screamed NO NO GOD NO GO AND WATCH JURASSIC PARK NOW!

I've been playing 1.2.5, and I have already got bored of Minecraft's algorithm. I think Mojang should scrap it and start it again, with a bit more adventure this time. I mean, I spawn in a Jungle every freakin' time!

I think the terrain is boring because all the hills and mountains are the same.
We need TALL mountains with snow covered peaks and jungle villages and random things like dessert crevice biomes, and rainforests, and amazing things like that.

I like the terrain its the mobs for me. I Kinda want mobs that make me jump or mobs that I need diamond armor to beat, I always wanted a mob like the witch out of left for dead. Oh and I may have deleted my minecraft jar.
