Paid mods? How about paid capes!
Well, paid capes are now a thing in Minecraft.
A leak from Minecraft website shows that if you are to buy cheap and crappy looking Creeper cape for 27$(+shipping), you will get a code which could be redeemed to get The Creaking cape.
Remember when capes were given for an actually GOOD reason? Now, it's just a couple bucks and you can get one of those with an ease (But I do hope that the backlash will make them reconsider this business choice.).
What's next on Microsoft's "Get-those-Money" list?

the additional content situation is getting weirder. First Addons go to marketplace as paid or demo, now capes are getting paid
Isnt this what optifine is already doing??
Never been a fan of the cape system since (other than those few given for actual contributions to early game development) capes have always been about the money — the first several iterations of general issue capes being promotional tchotchkes for attending early minecons (back when such were actually held).

There are people who spend a lot of time and effort hack into known accounts with plenty of capes and sell them for big bucks.
If anything that shabby creeper cape will start selling like hotcakes once the in-game cape can be redeemed

First of all... oh dear, a YouTuber who's trying to make money out of their own stuff is complaining about Mojang... the company that got them their material to sell in the first place!
Not to mention the sheer idiocy because the first minutes into that video.. is essentially a glorified commercial in itself. In a commercial video of its own, how more hypocrite can this get?
Tubers thrive on hype. Because that's their income, and unlike Mojang they usually don't even deliver. Into that same video: 1:35 "It leaked on this page yesterday, they since removed it...". Translation: I have nothing to back up my claim because Mojang removed it (not because nothing was there in the first place, surely not!) and of course: "please subscribe".
Lots of talk, lots of speculation, nothing substantial. Classic YouTube (monetized!) hoax if you ask me.
People still fall for this stuff? ;)

Looked into it a bit and there's actually some evidence of the leak being real. If you go to the shop on Minecraft's official website and find the Adult Creeper Cape they actually tease an exclusive in-game cape if you purchase it in the product details.
The Wayback Machine is also usually reliable in archiving any changes to a web page and impossible to fake unless you have direct access to The Internet Archive's servers and the Eyeblossom Cape Redeem Code was in fact there. Wouldn't even be the first time something like this accidentally leaked early since the Pale Garden's article and screenshots of Minecraft Live featuring The Creaking got leaked early as well.

Kudos on the research, for something like this the wayback machine is likely trustworthy (which doesn't guarantee the leak was not an actual accidental post of a proposal rather than a settled policy, but at least the reports don't seem to have been conceived wholly of pixie dust and unicorn farts).
