What sort of "more specialized gear" are you envisioning? [Examples would help]

some stuff thatd more specialized. im not sure what more i need to say aside from just like..side grade tools and weapons that are on par with diamond and netherite but have much more specialized uses. maybe a set thats specific to underwater work or maybe a n end set thats basically just netherite but more

WHAT "much more specialized uses"?
q.v https://www.planetminecraft.com/data-pack/too-much-pickaxes-preview/ for a bunch of examples of specialized picks

Tools "specific to underwater work" being one such example… In that case, however, Aqua Affinity makes that redundant, although gear specific to use while floating [which the game treats as a distinct condition from being underwater] remins as a possibility.

Heck yes. I bet we could get prismatic gear or something like it. I think that if prismatic gear is added, it should be upggraded from netherite using a template. It should give +2 knockback resistance and +1 fall resistance.

And it could have a special property. Maybe it could repair itself wothout mending. Mending would still work on it, it would increase the rate it repairs itself.

If we get something like Enderite, i don't think it should be Stronger than netherite. It should just be different. Like how netherite allows for better fire resistance. Maybe Enderite should have a different property, like allowing you to keep your Enderite items after death like if they teleport to you or something. but not stronger. That is what i think.

How about diamond power but gold enchantability?

Enderite granting Keep-On-Death to gear would be interesting, but (unless it had a least a partially countervailing disadvantage) would simply extend the current [basically] linear tiers.

Enderite armor that was only as good as chain and/or increased the odds of aggrevating endermen might be one way of creating that trade-off….
(See other replies below for some further thoughts)

Well, as a disadvantage for an hypothetical Enderite armor i think a good option would be making it incompatible with Mending, since it already has the advantage of "lasting longer" due to it not disappearing on death.

Quite the disadvantage, that 😣 [I can already hear the whinging tuning up… 🙄 ]

Mostly a deal-breaker for me (I don't die often enough for to compensate for the loss of mending), but one that might well keep enderite gear from simply supplanting netherite.
EDIT: I can see why one might want a set of enderite kit when working over the void putting it into the 'special circumstances' catagory.
Pretty decent idea with that in mind 🍻

plus and easy way around that is just putting a blank Enderite armor peace in an anvil with the enchanted one so you don't lose the enchants and you can repair it because you can already put to of the same item that uses durability to repair them but when you do that you will lose the enchantments

Unfortunately – because of how the prior work penalties increase, 'unit repair' is not an option I consider viable long term.
(A similar issue exists with Infinity bows, but those are much more readily obtainable.)

It's possible, but there are a lot of items in the game and they seem to be adding a lot of items without much use. Hard to figure out where you would get the materials, how much better should it be. I think swapping elytras and chestplates is already tedious, and they don't seem to want to add accessories or upgrades. netherite not that much stronger than diamond, and arguably not worth the effort, so that tells me they don't really want to add stronger armors and stuff. They want mobs to still slightly pose a threat even at full armor, weapons are pretty strong though. The rest of the progression doesn't really warrant stronger armor, and armor with extra functions would be tedious. I do think buffing netherite armor and especially the tools would be nice though.

We need new ores in the game, but you'll find out why...

Revamping The End and adding some sort of ore there would be cool and interesting, but I don't think better gear is necessary at all. There's already mods and plenty of servers with custom items if you want that, and what more would you want in the base game than netherite?

better gear IS necessary we NEED emerald armour and tools and instead of using gold to get netherite ingots if you used emeralds you'd get an emerald ingot and you'd craft it in a crafting table normally like other armours and with how rare emeralds and netherite already are it could be like a SUPER endgame kinda armour

Emeralds are rare? They're the easiest to get after iron, most people playing a lot have practically infinite emeralds. Why do you think better gear is necessary?

Not necessarily…

IRL armor has been made from a startling variety of materials, including wood, wool, shells, bones, and a wide variety of hides/leathers (all of which are already in-game).

The main issue I see is that mc armor/gear is almost one dimensional: barring cost there is no game mechanical reason one would choose iron over diamond.
[There are minor exceptions for
gold gear (which has better 'enchantability', but is so nerfed in durability that it's rare to see it used outsite the coerced use to avoid piglins)
chain (only obtainable via trading/loot)
turtle helms (add trivial water breathing)
netherite gear (floats in lava)]

Adding tiers will (at best) just shift the preferred/standard armor rather than introducing anything interesting.
The trim mechanics may be an attempt to address the everyone_looks_alike issues, but (because the results differ only cosmetically) doesn't seem to have much effect.

Where there to be a total revamp [probably at a level of introducing MC 2.0 ], adding things like chain being lighter and more flexible than plate, iron needing attention to prevent rust, leather being less noisy [sneakier sneaking], etc could make the choice of armor less a simple how high up the scale can one buy.

...then every "hardcore" player will get it in episode -2 and then cry when they lose their 30 year old hardcore world to the naturally spawning 20 tnt minecraft landmine..
Also, no. Netherite is strong enough. We need more sets in general, like what about titanium? or maybe... lead???

Yes.
What is needed is not more tiers in the A > B > C > D sequence, but a system where A is best against arrows/quarrels, B gives faster movement, C is sneakier, D is least restrictive of vision, etc.

This would not stop mini/maxing, but would hopefully be complex enough that the D-helm, A-chest, B-legs, C-booties build was not the obvious choice.

I agree it would be more interesting to make non-diamond/netherite armor actually have a use but I don't see a need for Mojang to get into it. The armor is perfectly fine as-is for the sandbox game Minecraft is and if people want it to be more MMO-like and have more interesting gear or mobs or anything plenty of mods have been created.

True. I've been treating this thread as an excercise in "Given that one wishes to add more armor/gear, how should that be done?",
which bypasses the prior question of whether there is any complelling reason to go there in the first place.

You point is well taken; for someone with a playstyle that de-emphasizes combat and is near vanilla, there doesn't seem a pressing need.
(And the mentioned alternatives will not only keep them as wants happy, but serve as a testing ground should the 'next great thing' actually be out there.)

It should be made of heavy cores, making it the HARDEST armor set to get.

"heavy armour"
infinite (while wearing full set)
slowness 2
resistance 3
and extra damage when using the mace in a ground pound attack because it would hypothetically make you fall faster
