No, Servers need to rely on bukkit unless someone is using the vanilla server client. Bukkit takes a while to be updated to a stable state after a client patch and that can take up to a week or more. Patience young one, patience. In the meantime, play SSP.

My server runs bukkit they have a not managed to get a stable build yet, but they have one out that is giving 100% CPU usage :L
