I'm just starting my first serious hardcore mode world. I want to make the most of it and live for as long as possible. Any tips?

What ever you do, don't hug creepers
For serious advice;
Build a secure house and remember to wear headphones constantly, also enable subtitles so you're more aware what each sound is. It can prevent you from dying

Secure house is done! I haven't been using my headphones though. I didn't realize until now just how much I was living on the edge. But creepers are so cute and huggable.

bring your bed along when you go out so whenever you can just sleep at night. then when you get better armour you can hunt monsters. also when you go strip mining when you see a cave don't go in unless you have really good armour, tools and shield because half of the time i go inside caves i always die

Never go in a ravine unless if you're risky. Be aware that creepers might drop down and instantly kill you.

Ban yourself from using beds. Better experience that way.
