What are some unique, underused block combinations?
Hey there! As a dedicated Minecraft builder, I've often been faced with a difficult choice: which blocks to use for my projects. At some point, you just feel like you've used them all. You often see grey stone, dark wood, colorful clay and green nature, which mostly mimics the default use of the blocks. Other builders like to use unique combinations to achieve entirely different styles. For example, you can use diorite to mimic chalk rocks and green clay to add more shades of green to your grassy areas, like in this example:
Now my question to you is: what are some block combinations or color schemes that are unexpected but very cool at the same time? They can be combinations of any kind: landscapes, structures, objects, and so forth.
Feel free to share examples or ideas!

I just use whatever color I think would suit the build most. (I'm not very creative; I build things that were made by someone else. For personal use, of course.)
Just an observation, it's kind of ironic; you're a builder, but your description is "Demolitionist." Sorry, I don't trust you to build my house! XD Just kidding.

If your making a grassy field I recommend All green colors of clay and concrete possibly wool and if its a pine wood forest add some podzel it makes it seem like clumps of pine needles
I hoped that helped somehow.

Mix the gray sides of the Acacia log into stone textures like stonebrick and andesite and , it's pretty cool. Red Mushroom Block makes nice sofas, Spruce weirdly works as a dirt texture and mixing wool into hay stacks made them look nicer.

Some utilization of granite or diorite in a proper building context, either as a mainstay for a road design where other blocks are secondary or in a decent structural design outside of roads.

dirty underwear, ripped jeans, scratched faded green shirt, old moldy brown shoes, no socks

I agree with springstof on this one.

Apart from the dirty underwear, I think it's not that weird. Just not too fashionable.

Seems a bit too noisy to me. I tend to use 4 materials at most for paths, unless the paths are grey. There are simply too many grey blocks that have similar shades :p

Here is a bit less noisy one:
