What are these?

So I haven't played minecraft for a couple months now due to time constraints but since summer has come up, I've had more free time to play mc. I was playing on the latest snapshots and some small black creature that looked kind of like a silverfish attacked me. Can anyone tell me what this is and more about it if possible?

alright thanks for the tips! I just saw them appear and they scared me to no end as I didn't know they existed

They are endermites, they are new, going to be in 1.8
When an enderman teleports, or you teleport with an enderpearl, there is a chance that those little guys will spawn.
They are hostile

Endermites, they're new. I don't really know what their purpose is, but they're basically just enderman-like silverfish.
