1.9, 1.15. 1.9 Because new pvp system that I don't know as a bedrock player, 1.15 because it had not a lot of items and its only addition was bees there so annoying if you just accidentally hit them.

1.15 (Only Bees) is my least favorite update with 1.16 a close 2nd (way to much water stuff)

1.19. Not the whole update, but one feature. The Warden. I love the underground and caves; I love the new cave that are huge. I absolutely adore the design and idea of the ancient underground city. What I hate is that they decided "Everyone wants a cave update, let's make the underground larger, let you go below where bedrock used to be, and add an underground city that looks awesome, and punish anyone who wants to live in it. That's a great idea, make the underground city guarded by a nigh-unkillable monster that we purposely made to be avoided instead of killed, and make it so it's impossible to even enter the city without fighting it." The warden is punishment for anyone who wants to explore, live in the ancient city or even look at it closely. The warden could've been a neat boss, but they decided to make it overpowered and able to kill you almost no matter what. It is excluded from the achievement of killing every single mob in the game because it's supposed to be something you run away from or get killed by.

its the one that added the smiling creeper

🤣🤣🤣🤣

bro it was the aprill fools version 2.0
1
village and pillage because it made villagers overpowered
1
I think it just has to be the updates that added game breaking bugs.
And also the latest april fools snapshot because apparently minecraft still doesn't like stacks above 127.

1.18 made the game super laggy for my laptop, i can still play, but only when its HEAVILY performance modded and with trash graphics.

MultiMC + SO = SPEED

You know, I used to hate 1.16 because it made diamonds inferior. Now I'm not sure though. I like most of the updates, just one part made some of them annoying. Like 1.13 was great except for the terrain generator change, the command update, and the phantoms. The only good part was the water update itself. 1.12 was nice except for the light blue change. 1.14 was... disappointing. 1.15 was also disappointing. 1.16... eh i have mixed feelings. 1.19... not sure about the warden.

my least favorited version is the 2.0 version
1
logistically, 1.8 is my favorite and least favorite update as i have played it over 5,000 hours but...
The combat system has some notable bugs as of that version and it only really added a bunch of building blocks to make up for it and for that matter, no one actually builds on 1.8 anymore (take it from someone who actually builds on 1.8)
The only reason people actually play on 1.8 is hypixel and if that went away everyone would jump to 1.19, 1.16, 1.12 or 1.7 depending on what they liked about the update
1.9 added the best item in the game (elytra) but took a shat on everything on the spirit of the competitive minecraft player respected but it is nothing compared to the sheer redundancy of playing on 1.8
Minecraft last peaked in 1.14 (Love pillagers) and 1.13's release was the happiest moment of my life so i think minecraft still has the potential to 1up itself even with the seemingly trigger happy chat moderators and increasingly laggy gameplay

I hate 1.6. it added horses. ONLY

True
1
I did not imagine this would be so popular. Well, there’s a first for everything is there not?
1
1.8. The introduction of horses was about the only thing particularly interesting, and I've never liked the introduction of all the useless blocks like diorite Ocean monuments were cool, but useless. Your reward for concurring one is 8 gold blocks and some sponges. Rabbits are also useless.
I'd say the saving grave of 1.8 were the improvements of commands in minecraft, which aren't even useful in survival mode. So honestly, I didn't care for it.

Imo every update was necessary because they've all added some facet of the game that is the foundation for how I play it, or added a really nice new qol feature that I can't live without. The two updates that come to mind as the least impactful for me were 1.6 and 1.10, I actually had to look up what they even added...
1
Exactly my thinking! That's a good way of putting it, I don't really have ones that I dislike, but there are definitely ones that weren't very impactful.
2
1.9, with how they completely reworked the combat system, not even perfecting it until 1.11, makes me want to stay on 1.8.9 for pvp
1
yeah if i was to choose a set of updates in a row i would choose 1.10 to 1.8 because they are kind of like a long wave of disappointment and crappy pvp
1
Yes
3
Definitely 1.19.2, or as I like to call it, the Infinite Control Update.
5
I also hate how if you do badly on ONE server you can get banned everywhere. and it's not even for stuff like hacking, it's for swearing, like why Microsoft, you went too far.

the 1.8 - Bountiful Update
It added ocean monuments & slime blocks. I never use ocean monuments for builds or even visit them in survival if i find one. I think their cool in concept but their not very well done in my opinion.

i thought the ocean monuments were added in 1.13 because I like never see them in 1.12- but I see them so frequently in 1.13+

minecraft wiki says they came out in 1.8? for java atleast. But they have updated them since then i think.

I don't think I have a least favourite update. Some are better than others, and I have some favourites that I enjoyed a lot, but when you get to the bottom end of the list I wouldn't say any one was particularly worse than the others in my eyes - they all add things which is cool. I find people's views on things like this are normally unnecessarily polarised. Sure there are a few features that I don't really like, but there's nothing that COMPLETELY SUCKS like some people seem to find, not to the extent of ruining an update and rating it as the worst.
I'm just pleased to see new features every week or so, content that they're still updating a 12 year old game and I haven't had to pay a penny since :)

what about 1.9? I am surprised to see someone who prefers 1.9+ rather than 1.8-
1
1.9 added and changed a lot of things other than the combat, like revamping The End. Yeah combat in 1.9 wasn't that great, but it has since been improved and has risen a lot in popularity recently. A lot of players (me included) prefer the current implementation of 1.9 combat in the latest versions to 1.8 combat. I do enjoy PVP a lot but I've never been involved too much with the PVP community, so I wasn't OUTRAGED like everyone else when it changed.
If you're directly comparing only 1.9 and 1.8 in particular, and only looking at the combat, then yes you could make the case for one being better. But I'm thinking more of the updates as a whole and the impact they've had on the future of the game (try imagine survival minecraft now without elytras and shulker boxes). For the record, I enjoy both 1.8 and 1.9 combat for minigames, Hypixel and MCC island, they're just different :)

i joined the mc pvp community in 2020 and i can personally confirm that 1.9's combat is quite slow and tacky with somehow even more nonsensical features affecting gameplay
(u cant even crit while running even though crits are designed off of the real life idea of increasing velocity to increase damage)
and I tell why people in 2016 saw the change as obnoxiously jarring as it was, and while 1.9 added some amazing features, they are practically unattainable to a majority of players (10 year olds) and based on the fact that i've only ever gotten an elytra on my own once, this might be an underestimate of the difficulty.
If i didn't know about the feature beforehand, my autistic brain would have an absolute workout trying to enter the end gateways and I would inevitably get stuck on the other side.
1.9 isn't the worst update but i cannot overstate how much it is absolutely not the best update

Yes I can understand why people were annoyed when 1.9 came out, the PVP is drastically different. I also agree 1.9 combat is quite slow, but personally I find 1.8 combat too quick sometimes. 1.9 definitely has some weird quirks, but if you're talking about things being based off real life then 1.8 is pretty funky too.
Interesting comment on most people not getting to the end though, I wonder what percentage of minecraft worlds get to the end islands. Either way, I don't think that's much of a downside for the update. A lot of the community now is asking for an End Update, would you be unhappy with this because you don't go to the end a lot?

no, i would be happy if there was things to do in the end that are intuitive and fun to play rather than just stressful and repetitive (the world looks the same no matter where you go, the enemies are uncanny but don't actually feature interesting characteristics beyond being tankey)
right now its just a boring and more difficult nether

Nether update, I think...
It IS pretty cool and adds a lot of nice features, but...
The Nether before: Lave, fire, danger, ghasts, blazes ! Hell ! It was dangerous and challenging !
The Nether now: Still somewhat dangerous, but you can get wood, meat, and other collectibles... You can survive in the Nether with lesser effort, and mobs such as ghasts and blazes have been greatly reduced.
I liked the idea of it being a hostile territory, where you could survive, using many tricks and strategies, like bringing stuff from the Overworld... Now it's too easy for me.

I personally don't like 1.5, as it seems pretty trivial compared to the others, and the main focus, redstone, is something I am not that great in.
2
Redstone is amazing and can be used to make an almost endless amount of contraptions. I highly recommend learning how to use it as it's just fun to make complex machines inside Minecraft itself.
1
i agree

Bro 1.9 the combat update is like shitty it like screwed the whole system
2
I believe the 1.9 update brought balance to the combat. It was no longer whoever had the best gear, but instead whoever could time their hits the best. 1.9's combat allows players to actually use skill to win their fights, rather than having a fairly new player with OP gear destroying you with no chance to fight back.
My favorite thing from 1.9's combat, was that I joined a random SMP, which I got attacked by a full iron player, while I had no armor and a stone sword. I won the fight purely because my enemy didn't time his hits, instead spamming to try and kill me, doing about half a heart each hit, while I did a few hearts each hit.
