What´s the fifth place next to the figure in inventory-window?

Hello
If i open the inventory, i see five eqcipment-places around the player-figure for the different armour-pieces.
But i see only four parts for an armour-set: helmet, harnish, pants and boots.
What is the fifth place (on the left side between helmet and harnish) for?

If you put something in the fifth slot, like a shield, you can hold that item in your left hand. You could also press the "f" key on your keyboard to put any item you're holding into your left hand.
