We were just curious and wondering when people thought Java edition was at its best. Do you think its at its best now, or do you think it was better during a previous version?

When playing certain games with PVP I prefer 1.8, but other than that I thought 1.12 was Minecraft's peak.
I really liked the color update and my computer could handle it good enough.

Same. This is because Minecraft 1.12.2 is the last version of Minecraft prior to The Flattening, which is why it is still fast.
For me, opening Minecraft 1.12.2 takes like about 5-10 seconds, whereas in Minecraft 1.14.4, it would take me about 20-30 seconds.

They have separated what was 1 block (using ID's to set color) into different blocks for different colors, which means it added more blocks apart from the additional blocks that came with the update.
However, that is just 1 part of the problem. I think they have also altered the world generation and entity ticking.
This is why some, if not most servers are stuck with 1.12. Watch SalC1's video for more info.

I know what the flattening is.... and I know why a lot (not most) servers are stuck in 1.12... I just didn't know the flattening was the cause of the lag...

The color update was actually at Minecraft's best, although it was at the time Mojang wasn't listening to the community's suggestions.

After Mojang released 1.13, the game became less interesting in my opinion.

Same. I always play on 1.12 not only because it is fast, but the graphics is good as well (they even changed the font in Minecraft 1.13+).

What do you mean? Yes, I am very sure. Here are proofs:
- If you go to any server which has lines in the scoreboard (usually they are set as "&7&m-----", which stands for light gray dashes with strikethrough), you can see the individual dashes in 1.13+, whereas in 1.12-, the dashes align with the strikethrough, which makes it look like a line.
Now, you may be wondering: why not just set the text to "&7&m " (replace the dashes with spaces)? It will work in some, but it's not reliable. For instance, the "line" appears shorter when using the spaces, and it also never renders in the scoreboard in Bedrock Edition. - In versions 1.12 and below, the asterisk (*) is vertically centered and looks like a stretched "X". On the other hand, versions 1.13 and up renders the asterisk as if it's a little star and is vertically aligned to the top.
Why does this matter? Well, some servers have scoreboards that use asterisks as "bullets", and it is weird to see a vertically aligned bullet. - The text-spacing has been increased in 1.13+, and will be more noticeable if you put on a resource pack with a custom font.

What exaxtly do you dilike about 1.13?
Really curious because I stopped playing Minecraft at 1.7 then returned to 1.14 and really liked the new ocean and villages and other stuff.

The ocean stuff is kinda cool tbh, but the new animations and graphics feel weird and sometimes glitchy. And they also added phantoms. So I prefer playing on 1.12.2 for building and 1.8.9 for PVPing.

I agree, phantoms are horrible...But you can turn them off you know..

The sneaking animation changed, and for some reason, every time I press shift on newer versions, I sneak twice. And I've seen people with the same problem as me and people always say that that's a keyboard problem, but I have tested it with 3 different keyboards and I had the same bug with all of them.

Perhaps you should report this to the bug tracker? I've honestly never heard of this bug..

I have that bug, but only on certain servers for some reason. It works fine on some servers, but doesn't on others.

I agree with the new animations being weird. Sneaking in 1.13+ feels so weird since it has a little animation, whereas on 1.12-, sneaking happens instantly.

Yo, 1.14 is complete trash and the initial release of that update was a disgrace... I mean an unplayable disaster on par with the initial release of fallout 76.... It got better, but only to a state where it was playable (and then 1.15 had to be dedicated to a bug fixing update because of the vastness of 1.14's bug pile)

For me, Minecraft hasn't hit that phase of no longer being good. It's still getting great updates and has great playability. It's not like other games where after a specific expansion it was completely ruined. (imo anyway)

Thats a great take! Its still a great game, and we enjoy it. But 1.8 was a big one for us, we really liked it.

I like the new updates, but I think updates 1.13 and 1.14 were the best. They transformed the game from what it used to be to what it is now.

There are some things I miss from the older versions 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, - the simpler times... There are some things I don't like in newer versions...
But overall I like the new stuff that's added to the game in every update and looking forward to see more.

People ported their mods from 1.7 to 1.8 (or whenever that other change occurred), so its not like they can't...

Pillagers are trash.. They don't pose a threat to anyone who isn't Steven hawking and they're just weak vindicators 'but ranged'..
