As all Minecrafters know, but usually avoid mentioning, the years 2015-2018 were quite bad for Minecraft, to put it lightly. Where were you during these dark ages? I kindly request you be honest.
Important: Do not pick on others for abandoning Minecraft during those years. No one can change the past, but everyone can learn from it.

Minecraft was never dying, only lost some players

Where was I during this period
I started to make maps, I actually got MORE into the game at this point. I just thought it wasn't popular on youtube during this period.
To the point: i'm the weird one

Minecraft never died.

I didn’t say it did. It just took one or two steps down the long road of game death.

Ha! this is a trick question (Minecraft never died)

I started playing Minecraft more often when it was dying. Minecraft will never die in my life.

I played Minecraft for around 6 years after the initial release, and then stopped playing on-and-off. So I can say I'm sort in the "middle" of still playing, and stuck around. I still enjoy the game when I do get on it; however, I never believed the game was within death.

Again, I never saw it as dying and just continued to play - I've never stopped, ever.

As it was "dying" i already wasn't playing very often, but poked on occasionally to see if I had residual motivation to build (oftentimes answer was, no). Playing for several years straight with nothing in between makes you worn out of a game, so..

i was still playing minecraft.

I had left, but it wasn't related to minecraft's infamy. Rather, I hadn't been playing during that time period because I felt physically unwell while playing. I get motion sick very easily in first person games, and minecraft can be especially problematic for me.
I came back because of the surge in popularity, a few years older and wiser. I figured out how to help myself mitigate the motion sickness: I play on a very specific FOV, and adjust it if I use any texture packs to compensate, and occasionally tab out of the game instead of playing nonstop now.

I got more and more addicted so yeah, also Minecraft was never dying it just flattened out, Minecraft was still massively popular even with its decline in popularity it didn't even get close to dying, most games would kill to have Minecraft stats when it was "Dying".

For me, Minecraft never died!

I don't think it truly died, that would have taken many more years of pain.

Well i joined after all that, but i can say my kids played through the dark ages...it's because of them that i'm into it now...i'm way behind on everything gaming...only bought an Xbox 360 this year...MC came with it....only discovered i could update it on Xbox a month or 2 ago....then looked into PC version...the revival is what has got me into building and sharing though...and being here...

I played more than ever!
I BATTELED ON AGAINST FORTNITE, INGNORING ALL OTHER GAMES, FIGHTING FOR THE GOOD OF MINECRAFT AND NEVER GIVING UP ON THIS WONDERFULL GAME-
...yeah, I should stop ranting now.

we were faithful, and our faith paid off. now all the little noobs respect us as veterans, even though some of us joined just a few weeks before Minecraft's rebirth.

I kept playing. I wasn't even aware that anything unusual was going on.

I've been playing Minecraft frequently for those times, but I do prefer these times more tho. lol

Dark ages?!
Well.. then again, checking my stats 1.13 came out in 2018 which is where your scale ends and I cannot help myself agree with you that the period was bad. I still recall 1.9 (I believe) which simply did. not. work. on my computer, then OptiFine came along and wham!
SO a 3rd party made Minecraft actually playable again for me back then. Note: we're not talking snapshots but official releases. ye gods...
But I stuck around. The server I frequented never updated so neither did I. Didn't work anyway ;) But I still kept playing because in the end I think Minecraft is an awesome game.
I definitely agree though: that was not a smart move on Mojang.
