So I opened up minecraft, and it asked me to log in.
It was a bit unusual, but I didn't think anything was wrong. Then I launched the game, and checked the single player option, all my worlds were gone. I looked on multiplayer, and my server list had disappeared.
The only out of the ordinary thing I did was make a shortcut to the .minecraft folder on my desktop. Please help, I don't want to lose all my builds.

Probably instead of making a shortcut on your desktop, you "moved" the folder. Try opening up the ".minecraft" link on your desktop, then open up "windowskey+run" and type %appdata%, and navigate to the .minecraft folder there. Make sure its the same. if not, then you did move the folder to your desktop, and all you have to do is delete the one from %appdata% and move it back.
But before you do that, open up the folder on your desktop, and make sure your server list and worlds are their. Because if not, you did something else.
