When I play Alpha 1.04 on the new launcher, the sounds are all off, when I turn them on there is still no sound!? Can you help me with that?

Also, how would I install mods on it? Or would I'd have to get the old launcher back? And if the old launcher will fix this problem, can someone send me the jar file for it?
