My minecraft seems to be broken

For some reason my Macbook Pro (Early 2015) seems to not be running minecraft very well recently, it goes from 100+ fps on servers to 2-5 within minutes of me joining then lagging my computer out completely, Ive tried updating Java, Clearing Cache's I even tried uninstalling then re-installing minecraft, Ive even looked at buying a new computer just because its killing my computer whenever I try to go on any multiplayer server
My specs are
Processor: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory: 8GB 1867 MHz DDR3
Startup Disk: Macintosh HD
Graphics: Intel Iris Graphics 6100 1536 MB
Please someone help

Maybe install Optifine? It is intended to help with FPS issues.

What Java version are you trying to use? Vanilla or a modloader such as Forge and/or LiteLoader?
Also note that just updating Java isn't enough. Minecraft uses its own runtime by default, if you want to use a Java version which is already installed on your system then you'll need to edit the profile in the launcher first.
