As i have recently just gotten my new GPU I decided to get a shader for Minecraft, I have optifine installed but nothing changes when i select the texture pack and I know everything is compatible with the version of minecraft i'm using. Somewhere I read that I had to install GLSL shaders which is a problem for me because i'm using Linux (and because of that, can't run .exe files, I tried WINE but it didn't work). This is my first time dealing with shaders so the answer might be staring me in the face.

In modern version of Minecraft optifine have support for shaders, so You don't have to install GLSL mod.
Btw, shaderpacks is not located in texture/resourcepack folder - It's in shaderpacks folder - go to video settings> shaderpacks and click "open shaderrpacks folder" (or something simillar) then just put shaderpack zip in this folder.
Hope i helped :D

Already did that, while I was doing it I also fixed an issue I read that it had in the nether by unzipping the file, deleting the files that I needed to delete and re-zipped it then put it back in the shaderpacks folder. Also, if it wasn't in the right folder I wouldn't have been able to see it where you select the shader you want.
