Optifine not showing up in forge list

OptiFine 1.12.2 HD U C8 and I made sure to get the compatible forge version which is forge#2587 but it doesn't appear in the list in-game. Also tried
OptiFine 1.12.2 HD U C7 with its compatible forge version which is forge#2555 but that also doesn't appear.

with forge#2555 before I realised I used the wrong forge version. I had already put optifine in the mods folder so I don't know if this affected it in any way.Create an account or sign in to comment.

You don't need forge for working optifine - open up optifine jar file with java and let installer install it to Your client, then open launcher and there will be special profile named 'Optifine' (Next to 'PLAY' button click arrow up button to expand the list of profiles)

just aslong as the forge version is the same or newer you are fine, otherwise it will crash and tell you to use a newer version

my game didn't crash at all. it just didn't show optifine when I clicked mods in-game

thats normal, go into the graphics options and if you see a shaders option then its working, if not then you did something wrong, also just making sure, you did just drop it into the mods folder right?
