Question about armor enchantments

For the sake of the example, let's assume you are wearing a diamond helmet, leggings and boots. Each one is enchanted with Fire, Blast or Projectile Protection IV. Is this better or worse or equal than if each one had normal Protection IV?

Protection grants you a small amount of defence against melee attacks (1,6% per point i believe).
All other forms of protection have double the amount per point (3,2%).
On top of that, fire protection reduces the time you affected by fire.

I've always done one of all 4. (Example fire-helmet projectile-chest normal-leggings blast-boots) I've always thought that this way I'll cover all my bases.
