So I used to be able to record pretty smoothly with shaders on a 980ti on a 60hz 1080p monitor. Around 120-140 fps.

I recently upgraded to a Ultrawide 4k monitor and an RTX 2070 which I thought was the reason for such a drastic FPS drop with shaders (50-60fps), but I'm trying out the same 1080p 60hz monitor with this new RTX 2070 card and I'm getting less than half my fps that I did with the 980ti.

I also noticed that my fps is around 300-400 on both the 4k ultrawide and 1080p monitors.

Is there a way to optimize shaders? any mods to get clean / smooth cinematic footage with shaders?

Make sure autosave isn't on 2s

Check to see if you accidentally cranked your Fullscreen Resolution setting way too high

If you have a good GPU (which you do, obviously) make sure "Fast Render" is OFF! Minecraft is already way too CPU intensive, you don't need extra work that the GPU could be doing to be rerouted to your CPU. Graphics cards are way faster at math than cpu's. This is why they are used for cryptocurrency mining.

Fast Math on. Render regions and smart animations are a personal preference

Biome Blend causes way more FPS issues than you would expect. Set it back to default. (5x5)

If you use Smooth Lighting, set it to 50%. The difference is negligible and the boost is good.

A higher FOV will always impact your framerate on any game

Allocating more than 4GB to Minecraft will actually slow it down instead of help it. And whoever started the myth that more ram = better FPS is a terrible person lol

If you have "Normal map" on in your shader settings and you're not using it, turn it off.

The most FPS impactful setting in shaders is the Render Quality. Unless you're doing your cinematics in 4k, set it back to 1x.

If you're using a Ryzen CPU, make sure your cores aren't underclocked. Go into Ryzen master and get your CPU back up to speed

Hey thanks for your reply, i was actually able to get my fps up over the past few days but turning off normal map did help in a 5-10 fps boost.

Still not as high as my 980ti oddly, (was overclocking it, but a 2070 should still be better than an OC 980ti...), but ive been able to get over 1k fps for the first time in the past week on my rtx card.

Still not 100% sure what the cause is, but the information you provided was very helpful thanks a lot!

This thread actually inspired me to make an FPS boost guide. There's more information there that might be useful too. Not advertising, just a helpful dood.

Yep, I've never updated past 1.8.9 and I've been using the exact same shader packs.

The only thing different is possibly my mods, like an updated version of optifine or keystrokes, though I've always kept my video settings the same, so I'm not really sure why my frame rates are the same or worse than a 980ti, with an rtx card.
