I am getting further and further into programming now through school, and figured I should start learning to mod Minecraft sooner than later (I've wanted to mod for a while but only recently started university and coding classes). Is there anywhere that is good for modders just starting out, or is it better to just dive right in and explore?

Its honestly just best to dive right in, the best way to learn is trial and error. Good Luck!

I've been modding for a while now. I used tutorials, but essentially taught myself. I used notepad++ when I first started, but soon learned java eclipes is by far the best program I've used,

Just search up something called minecraft coder pack, look up some modding tutorials on youtube, and dive right in

I do not yet know how to mod on 1.4.2, but it shouldnt be hard, i used to mod in 1.3.2, 1.2.5, 1.2.4 all kinds of versions, but not yet minecraft 1.4.2.... i would also wait until 1.4.3, so that you dont have to learn whats diferent...

(By the way, minecraft coder pack decompiles minecraft so that you can code with it using whatever java coding software you prefer...)
