Depends what you like but to be honest i would go watch some mod reviews and then pick one that looks like fun...

Voxelmodpack has a bunch of neat mods - and even installs them, for you. Also, Optifine. Not only does it help with any performance problems, it takes away the need for MCpatcher

just use tekkit.(if too complicated use volts). Try to search up "the aether". really fun mod.
