Hi,

I would like to announce a new Mod in the works called Fancy Fish Mod. It introduces a number of exotic fish mobs and craftable items including fish food, fish bowls, fish tanks and a fishing net to capture and keep them as pets.

This Mod is a work in progress. Try it out on test worlds before using it with your existing worlds. This Mod has been tested with Minecraft 1.8.

More information can be found on the Fancy Fish Mod page.

Update:

Added fish scale armor and a sword, all craftable from harvested fish scales. The armour provides a water breathing perk while the sword deals extra damage and wither potion effects against many water-aversive mobs like magma cubes, blazes, witches etc.

The fish tank is now more functional. It is possible to place captured fish within it via a custom interface. It works like a chest specialised for holding fish.

Future updates will include animated fish within the tank, once I figure out how to do it

The mod is build on the Forge MDK for Minecraft 1.8 so it isn't compatible with earlier versions I'm afraid.

Thanks for the encouragement. This is actually my first Minecraft mod so it's a long learning process. There is more stuff that I intend to develop within this mod, although it will remain mostly about fish, fishing, and keeping fish as pets.

I could build an executable Windows installer that places the Mod Jar file in folder
%appdata%/roaming/.minecraft/mods
but many users might not be comfortable with an EXE file. I may look into it in the future.

Some stuff that I plan to (or may) implement:
  • Wear and tear for the fishing net tool, just like the other tools.
  • Panic AI for the fish when the player moves in their vicinity.
  • Fish drop scales when they die (they currently drop leather as a placeholder)
  • Fish can be placed in fish tanks (they can only be filled/emptied with water using buckets at the moment)
  • Items crafted from fish scales, such as fish scale armour, enchantable necklaces etc.
  • Scuba gear for longer underwater stays
  • Submarine vehicle
  • Custom water blocks with sea weed, anemones etc. for building large fish tanks.
  • More fish!

to install mods you simply put them in the mods folder after youve installed forge which has its own installer to make a installer for a mod anymore is a waste of time really since installing mods is so easy compared to how it use to be done even then it wasnt to hard if you knew what you were doing

That looks so amazing this could become something really popular and introduced to many modpacks but you have to make it stand out from mo-creatures that is one of the more commonly used mods.

Try making it unique and making bigger and better models if get professionals to make amazing textures.

Good luck!
