I'm wondering, what are the most common modding tools . Share the pros and cons you have with your preferred method.

I use notepad ++ and javascript.
Pros : Gets what you want
Cons : Requires knowledge of javascript.

Yeah I've used Notepad++ before.
The software that I use translates blockly to JavaScript; so I don't really have to worry about the actual code, but I do have the option of looking at it.

Thanks for the list, I'll check them out.

I've only made mods using blockly so far. It's very easy to use, but very powerful as well.

The software I use has all of those options (texture packs/schematics/worlds/mods) integrated in to the same website.

But I was wondering if there are other options out there.

I use these
http://www.modcoderpack.com/website/
http://www.minecraftforge.net/wiki/
https://eclipse.org/downloads/

I have not compiled a working mod yet, so i cant give you any pro's or cons

But for creating textures i usually use
http://www.planetminecraft.com/mod/mcskin3d/ Armours and Mobs
http://www.getpaint.net/index.html Items and blocks
i also use a bunch of plugin packs for paint.net which you can get from
http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/forum/7-plugins-publishing-only/
