I have been building a lot of creations lately, one being a white quartz tower and a wooden water floating town. I was hoping to get some feedback on them and maybe some tips on how to improve my building skills

Thanks

Both are awesome! Really love the spawn tower, no critique

NB: This feedback is coming from a crafter that makes modern/medieval + Brovillian style of creations.
I think the quartz tower is a good creation beacuse the detail is ok and you seem to give the build some exterior work as well. The placement of the build seems like a good place. Giving it a beacon makes it want to look superpowered. I would make something like this look like its touching the sky. Build it taller, but not that much. Only until you can close the top and make it sharp.

When I do outside builds I dont like to make the bottom of the build like a chunk of wood or any block. If its inside its ok beacuse the roof covers it, but outside it should have some details. Therefore I would drop the whole wood square floor and instead connected the wood towers with bridges like you have done in the upper levels. It gives it more like a water village vibe. Or if you dont like that you can simply cut the corners doing more round instead of a sharp square corner.

But these advice are to take in or just ignore it beacuse it doesnt matter when you are a beginner. Everything looks good when you do this in your early stage =)

Both of these builds are pretty good in terms of detailing. However, one thing I'd recommend is taking your screenshots in default texture pack. Most builders use this since it is the most commonly used pack in all of Minecraft and provides a good sense of how blocks will look in a lot of other resource packs.

This is true in most situations, except if you want your build to have a specific theme that's really helped by the texturepack (so if you make a rustic looking medieval build, something like Conquest or John Smith might be useful. Conquest especially allows you to go really far, as it has custom block models in 1.8, and an enormous amount of connected textures in 1.7.

It's your choice what you do with your builds, but as you can probably notice statistically, having a certain amount of block variation appeals to the largest amount of builders. If you really wish to learn building, I strongly recommend visiting some servers that specialize in high-level building. I can name you some (Vadact, Sunfury, Athion, Dawn, etc in no particular order).

This worked very well for me, as I had spent a long time building in singleplayer, then I found the Blockworks and Mysidia servers (neither of those are online anymore, but Blockworks public might return one day).
I never learned as fast as joining one of those. I had spent almost 6 months in singleplayer, not having premium minecraft (and thus no normal multiplater). I learned as much in 3 weeks of playing on those servers.

I personally find the quartz building to be quite good, and I don't even think you should put too much variation into it, unlike what the others say.

They look really nice for a beginner, but for the spawn tower you should work on having different blocks in the build. It will just look a lot better.

As for the wooden town, it looks really nice.

the first one needs block variation as it was made solely from quartz. the second one is better at that, but seems a bit awkward somehow, I suggest you make the towers there higher and the supporting pillars larger and thicker.
