You need a 3x2 area. Place the comparator on the side, leaving one block of space on each side. (Except for one side.) Now, connect redstone to all available sides EXCEPT for the back side. Place a lever here instead. Set the single lonely torch on the front side to light up, then activate it. If you succeed, it's a clock. If you fail, you might tear a hole in the fabric of reality.

i made the clock youre talking about and took a screenshot of it:
comparator clock

the lever on the green block is the acitvation, you can use any redstone input.
make sure that comparator itself is in substraction mode by right clicking on it (front light will light up)

hope this helps! good luck

I assume you want the comparator to cycle every tick. If so, arrange the following :

DD
TCD

D’s are redstone dust, C is the comparator, and T is a redstone torch. Make sure to place the comparator so that the side with two torches on the comparator is facing the torch. After this, right-click on the comparator, and you should have yourself a redstone clock. Let me know if it doesn’t work out, and if so please provide a screenshot of your setup. Happy Crafting
