I am trying to use the execute command to make a lightning trail snowball. However the lightning only strikes the command block when I throw the snowball. This is the command I am using in a repeating command block:

execute as @e[type=minecraft:snowball] run summon minecraft:lightning_bolt ~ ~ ~

Any help would be appreciated
