How to simulate lightning using command blocks?

For my zombie map,i need a design that will simulate lightning, any ideas?

I have decided to use the lightning sound from back ops 2 mob of the dead and changes from night to day then night quickly.

You can't summon a bolt of lightning with a command block, much to everyone's sorrow.
However, a sort-of-solution would be to play the lightning noise with /playsound. If the map is at night, giving the players a brief night vision effect will light up the terrain, simulating a lightning strike.
