How to do raycasting in Minecraft 1.13 with functions?

So yeah, I'm back again. I've been quite busy recently with my Naruto Data Pack (It's actually rather close to alpha release, I feel that once I perfect custom crafting, add a jutsu for all five chakra natures, and add kunai and shuriken I'll release it in alpha stage!) but one thing has been bugging me. For a lot of my planned jutsu (and the kunai and shuriken) I need to be able to do raycasting. What is the most effective method for that? I want to use armor stands, stop when it hits a wall or mob, and have configurable results when it hits both of those. Thanks in advance for any help I (hopefully) get. Oh yeah, and thanks everyone for your support on the Naruto Data Pack, it means a lot to me!

EDIT: I managed to come up with my own way which is relatively simple, but if you have an answer you can still tell me.
