the main resource pack I use is Soartex Fanver and I'd say it's my favourite one because it is sort of a mix between stylised and realistic but also fairly similar to the orignal textures.
That being said, I generally don't like hyper realism texture packs as to me they don't feel right for minecraft and I don't really like medieval stylised resource packs either because most of them seem the same or very similar

I like smooth ones. Love walking on smooth looking sand.

I usually keep something that has the original textures of minecraft but just hides the original.. texture.. Like currently, I use Faithful or I switch to Flows HD for 1.7

Realistic as in "OMG 512X PHOTO REALISM WITH SHADERS" or realism as in packs that still keep the same "MC IDEA" instead of having everything purple?
