Just keep your mind open when skinning. Just be creative.

as a skinner (I LOVE SKINNING!) i have a couple of tips
1.always shade the skin
2.dont make them too dull and boring make them colorful exciting adventures
3.make skins when you have an idea of something
4.no matter what people say (this skin sucks stop posting skins do ugly ect)just dont listen to them you enjoy it if you tried hard and are proud

Nice skin, I can see that u used a lot of time and effort!
I'm not that much of a skinner myself, but I know the means of a good skin.
I would recommend using a darker/harder color for the hair, because the hair isn't really outlined, it just blends in with the rest if the skin.
You have potential though!

I can't help but think there is something totally wrong about it, and I just can't see it? Is it the colours? Or maybe it's that thief doesn't mix with shiny gems..?

Wow, you're asking me for help I'm a new skinner too, so sry if my answer isn't what you expected. (:
I really like the skin. It's awesome idea. The only thing I would do is use another shading technique. But overall, skin is very pretty.

Do not EVER, NEVER EVER make a teenage/boy/girl/anything related to real life people. Those are the worst, most boring, hideous skins ever created.

It's mainly not really if someone likes them. In fact, it's not ALWAYS that people like them. (And when I say this, I don't mean a large group of people. I mean a few people who are usually new to PMC that don't acknowledge their unoriginality.) If you see a teenager skin with over 5 diamonds or something like that then it is VERY possible that this person is doing the "diamond4diamond" crap, making their skin popular with even a chance of getting on pop reel, which makes EVERYONE teed off. A main reason for many on why so many people make teen skins is for diamonds so they can get EXP. Another reason may be that they are lazy to make their own good skin from scratch and decide to steal a skin and either recolor it or just post it like that. So yah.... ^^''!
I think your skin is REALLY nice btw! ^^ The shading is amazing! Here are my tips:
1. Be as original as possible in not just skinning but in EVERYTHING you do.
2. Don't be lazy and remember to put effort into it!
3. Encourage other starting skinners. Maybe even help them out.
4. Always try something different when...
>a. in doubt.
>b. you feel like you want to try it.
>c. you feel like the usual you do is too old and too usual.
5. Never hold yourself back from a good idea!
6. If you feel confident enough, try a skin series!

But a majority of the skinning community hates them with a passion because EVERYONE does them. If you want to be noticed, you must develop your own style and branch off from teen skins.
Not to say I don't have a few myself. I do the occasional elven skin for myself and I did a few requests for a few other people, but a majority of my skins are video game characters or things that other people have not done enough, which I think is something all skinners should strive for.
But a majority of the skinning community hates them with a passion because EVERYONE does them. If you want to be noticed, you must develop your own style and branch off from teen skins.

Because it's the noobs' way of making a skin
Like 'simple' texture packs. Yeah right - You just shaded every tile one colour (and still they're on the popular reel!).
From my experience, doing something new that nobody else has ever tried works well

I do like the skin because of the shading, but i do think that the teenage girls and boys skins are overused and all of that. I will give you credit for making that really nicely done skin and Diamond for u.

Try not to do teenage boy/girl skins, although you may title them differently, they are unoriginal and boring. There are hundreds of things you can make a skin of, teenage boy/girl skins are the most overused, unoriginal skins out there. Try something different
