I am hoping to get a bit of help, you see just like im sure many of you skinners out there have experience: i have hit a bit of a brick wall on my skins. I wouldnt call myself a bad skinner and with a lot of my skins i am very happy with, but i really want to find a way to improve because i am not happy just being an alright skinner.
Please can you guys tell me what you think are wrong or could be improved with these skins. If you can spot something really big wrong with them then GREAT! but i still want to hear little things as well.

I agree, the eyes are a bit dull on a lot of them. But I disagree about the shading, sometimes adding noise can really help the skin not look so monotonous.

Phase (http://www.planetminecraft.com/member/phase_) just suggested that i make the coat brown for my contest skin to highlight his face. So im gonna do that as well as what everyone else said now.

Add some more shading to his hair as well, rather than leaving it a flat colour.

No, not at all. You can use different shading on different skins separately, but pulling off multiple types on just one skin is really difficult, and it ends up looking quite odd. (This is just my opinion, of course.)

thanks, i'm starting to see where you are coming from, ill do 1 type of shading on the next skin i make and then if it turns out well i will start updating the ones so far.

These are really good! One problem is that the eyes look at the side. Looks a bit weird.

im pretty happy with my skins, but sadly ,for me, pretty happy isnt good enough XD

In my opinion, the shading needs to be more organized, as it feels a bit random.

Work on your shading, don't use the 1.8 format unless you feel it's necessary

May i ask how i could improve my shading? what should i bare in mind whilst skinning and are there and techniques that you or anyone does that produces good shading?

Don't make the shading too noisy. Add more contrast. Try other styles of shading.

Yes, and please try to make it a bit consistent. The last two are alright, but the first ones seem to have at least two different types of shading in them.
