I'm a beginner skinner, and I need a way, of course, to make skins for minecraft.
What site do the advanced skinners reccommend to start me off on my skinning adventure?
And is downloading a skinning-application better than using a website?

I'd definitely have to recommend needcoolshoes.com. I've used that for a while now and it's a pretty good website.

NamechangeIn that entire first sentence you said nothing about skinning..

I took it in a general and literal sense.
Just stop talking, you're embarrassing yourself. .

I've been using MCSkin3D for over two years, and I've not yet found how to copy/paste entire sections.

I don't think McSkin3D actually has copy/paste or rotation options for individual portions of the skin. For that I use Paint.NET.

I've yet to see a website offer copy/paste for parts of a skin, the ability to rotate parts, or dodge/burn tools to name a few.

Also, in my experience, color-picking is far more in-depth in many graphic/skin-editing programs than in any website I've used. Programs also have the added ability of giving you space to put a palette.

But anyway, @OP, websites don't have the in-depth experience that you can get with a program. Plus, most of the websites aren't even allowed on PMC.

You can use GIMP or Photoshop, but if you want one specifically for minecraft skins the use MCSkin3D like Azie said.

The only thing that websites have and programs don't is a part picker. Which is against PMC rules... So programs all the way.

Who said anything about PMC? Azie said nothing about PMC in that statement, so I take it that she meant it in general...

Downloading a program is always better than doing it on a website since you get so many more tools and options to work with.

I'd recommend McSkin3D by Paril.
