Why I can't change minecraft skin?

So I just bought Minecraft and whenever i try to upload a skin from skindex it directs me to minecraft.net and says i haven't bought minecraft? I've looked this up and found you can go to your profile and change your skin but it shows nothing on mine underneath want to change your look? Besides saying i havent bought it.

i have the same problem but using mojang account doesn't work. what do i do?

I think I have the answer. Where it says "username," don't actually type in your username. Type in the email address that you made your account with. Then, click "profile" and click "chose file." After selecting your downloaded skin, click "upload."
Make sure you aren't logged into Minecraft when you do this.

Ah, most minecraft accounts were transferred to mojang accounts, and new ones are mojang accounts now. they dont point that out very well.
