Just got the game, liking it. I play on a survival server, no mods, clean game 1.11.2
My wife and I build a mob farming tower we saw on line but it isnt working. Was hoping someone could either give advice on whats up or give us a sure fire way to make a mob farming thing for gear and exp.

Mobs are not spawning on top, its lit up good. INSIDE it's darker than my ex-wife's heart. So no light in it.

Ok so I have two questions.
1: Are mobs spawning on the top?
2: Is there any light getting into the grinder?

I am not sure what PART, as it is not spawning monsters at all. Im on a survival server set to normal, monsters spawn all the time so I know its not the server, it's the structure. I am guessing I dont understand it? But the bottom line is I made it like several tutorials said to make it, and no monsters spawn.
So i was hoping someone could tell me where I messed it up, or maybe give me a better way to spawn in monsters to farm for gear and exp.
