A lot of unknown skinners do get into the finalists. I am one of those people, I have gotten into the finalists 3 times, and I am drawn with quite a few people on diamonds, both judge and regular user diamonds on this contest, so I JUST missed out on being a finalist on this contest. In fact, one of the skins in the finalists has (if the amount of judge diamonds is still worth 10) 26 diamonds, and I have 27.

Yeah, I have to admit the stuff they produce is still to a high quality, but it would be nice once in awhile to see less recognised users get into the finalists, as it is generally the same people getting into the finalists

I do see what you mean, but the high level users have gotten their high level and the hundreds-thousands of subscribers because they make good content, so they do deserve their place. The judges go through every single skin in the 2 day reviewing phase, so every skin has the opportunity to be viewed by judges and regular users alike. Everyone has an equal chance of getting into the finalists.

Ah, I see. Hmm. But surely a high level user who has more subscribers than a lower level user is bound to get more diamonds because more people who are subscribed to a high level user will view that users skin and of course diamond it? So in a matter of words the 'rich' get 'richer' if you know what I mean? Well wheres the logic in that.

I'm actually dissapointed to see what skins were in the 100 finalists, I dont understand how the judging system works because there are clearly some skins that don't deserve a place in the finalists. How do they even choose the finalists? Is it computer calculated or something?

I was wondering, is there a way we would be able to see a 'Unfortunate few' type list, people who were close to the top 100 but just missed out, say the people ranked 101-120 on diamonds maybe?

Well yes, it is. That is how the finalists are calculated. Which ever skins have the most diamonds get into the top 100. Judge diamond (I believe) count as 10 'regular' user diamonds. Whilst many people would agree that some skins are skipped over, that is inevitable and yes there are some skins which I don't believe should be in the top 100 and other which I think should be, but did not make it in, everyone will at some point in time think this. As for the submissions that do not follow the guidelines, flag them under the 'Contest Disqualification' option, and they will be dealt with.
As for your point about this being a popularity contest, to a degree you are correct. The popular users are popular because their submissions are of good quality. However. not all the finalists are popular members who everyone knows of. Look at Starque or Roobus, they were more or less unheard of until they won contests and now they are well known, and even people such as my self, whilst I have not won a contest, I have still gained a lot of subscribers from the three contests in which I did earn a place in the top 100.

EDIT: Historical context is in regards to the timeline of events happening in the 'Dark Ages' era. Hence, anything that happened within that select period is subject to being created as a skin for this contest.

It means that, if you can't find information about it in a real (nonfiction) history book, then it will be disqualified from this contest.

I made a submission for the contest and it was immediately taken down. I made a necromancer, which was a person who took part in witchcraft and "claimed" to be able to bring back the dead. I have looked it up and verified that it is time period accurate, and would like an explanation!

You can overlap "a longer beard that overlaps the torso or outstanding ears/ horns etc", however, PMC won't allow you to upload a skin with transparent textures, so don't worry about that.

If you had something on the "Hat" layer, PMC will let you upload. But if you have something over the torso (a different layer) PMC will NOT let you upload.

Although skin contests are beneficial to planet minecraft. I believe that the submissions should hide the uploader's name to promote fairness. I think it's a bit sad that some uploaders can win based solely on how much fans they have gathered over the years, when they have the possibility to make poor skins in comparison to new people.
