I joined PMC back in 2012 but never touched the account until I found my old join email today. I dont like the name ive chosen for this account and was wondering if it was possible to maybe ask a staff to claim an inactive username?

Your best bet is probably opening a ticket about it. If you don’t get a satisfactory response, I’d suggest just slightly altering the username, as oakar said.
If you can’t get the username there’s a lower case “L” in the username, some people just use an upper case “i” instead since they look identical. So, let’s say you wanted to use the username “table”, but it’s taken. You could just do “TabIe (Tabie)” instead.

Do you know if there are specific requirements to get the name?

I’m not sure. Chances are there’s some kind of rule on how long the account has been offline, though I’m not sure how long it would be.

I mean if a name is already claimed is there a way you could request it? The name I want is owned by a guy who signed up and never used this site 8 years ago.

Make a ticket, or change the name slightly. Ex. If the name was LaCroix (I'm creative ik), make it LaCroiz.
