Freezing on the start screen

On my PC, I downloaded two mods.
A gun mod, and a toomanyitems mod. But, when I put them in the minecraft WINRAR. it froze my minecraft.
Once you log in...All it says is Updating Minecraft, Done loading. And but the loading bar isn't done, its all the way full but a bit and it doesn't finish...
I tried to delete all the files, but still my minecraft isn't working!
Help!

Also, remember that you will need to delete META-INF from the minecraft.jar.

Nope, I bought Minecraft. It messed up as soon as I installed the mods.
There ya go. You must have messed up while installing a mod. Try installing a mod one at a time to see what the problem is (or the problem may be installing the mod incorrectly).
Forcing an update clears out any mistakes you made while trying to install a mod that ended in failure.
