That would be reuploading a skin with small alterations, which I'm pretty sure isn't allowed.
Go for it, it could be cool, and if it doesn't turn out how you thought, you can always remove it. <3

You could have the skin file of the original in the description incase you don't like it.

You don't have to! You can reupload the skin but instead of hitting "PUBLISH LIVE" hit "SAVE DRAFT"
Then a copy of the skin will be in your content, but only you will be able to see it!
You can edit it just like a normal skin and make progress on it without ruining the original.
