Hey.

Unfortunately, this isn't the first time I've reported issues with ads on the site. I've previously reported ads for 18+ content (y'know, those things that stop babies ) where the ad was clearly not suitable for the age range of the site. I've complained a bit about autoplay video ads, because they're just stupidly annoying... but the latest one is the worst.

It seems the site now randomly directs you to a fake page demanding you download a "java" or "flash" update - both of course viruses. How can you justify ads like that?

I know the site has to raise money to stay up, and that's why I don't use AdBlock - but it's a two way street. If ads like that keep coming up I'd get adblock just for this site, because it's going too far...

One other solution might be some sort of subscription to go "ad-free". Curse's system is good - you can buy it or earn it, I've done the latter through submissions.

i find it extremely annoying, and its on other websites too (gamebanana to name one). at first i was worried, but now its just a nuicance. i have a little work around that sometimes works- hit the esc button before the page redirects to 'updooring'.

I can't even open up any pages/links on PMC without "www.updooring.com/CA/?dv1=show3&dv2=&dv3=&dv4=mariRM-CA&sec_id=qWJ8vBQjIEzEzreaqZipDn7pCZO6Y3RmIaRmqldR7aN87rCuC3i8fAX37kw8hnoQzA8E7kNeNkX%EB&marketing_fid=MTQwMzg0MDcwNi0yOTU1MDk3YjY4ZGM4N2I5MWJhYjdlOGVmZWYwMWVlYw==" popping up. It's absolutely obnoxious, but don't blame me for not reading this whole thread, since I can't switch pages or do anything on PMC without this opening constantly.

Teddy, do you mean to PM them?
It might be a good idea to add a "report ad" button somewhere, so we can just submit the URL there, which would be quicker for everyone.

Problem with reporting ad feature is that everyone would report all the ads, lol. At least this way it's a bit more controlled. Just PM the people that Teddy said and we can bring it to Paril's attention, people shouldn't be redirected anywhere.

We can see this is a serious issue and we are trying our best to remove all suspicious and inappropriate advertizements on Planet Minecraft.

If you do happen to come across such an advertizement please contact Paril, Charlizard, Jetra or Midnight with the link. This way we can remove bad ads in the fastest way possible.
Please remember to make sure the link is not hyperlinked when you are posting it.

You can find all moderators listed above here, http://www.planetminecraft.com/team/

We understand that some members would like to use Adblock, and that is completely fine. The happiness of our members is very important and we'd like you to view our site in the most easiest way possible. As many of you know we do not make any money to keep the site running when you use Adblock. I would advise you do not use Adblock if you would like to support Planet Minecraft and you have no troubles with adverts.

Well, for the updooring.com that would not be the case as I have not looked up java for about 2 months, and before I reset my 3 year old laptop to get rid of viruses, it had been about 3 YEARS since I looked up java, also, this only just started happening before I reset my computer and today

With AdBlockPlus you can add certain URLs to a list of what to block.
If there were 2 ads, a candy ad and a granola bar ad, and you just wanted to see the candy ad, you just copy the link from the granola bar ad and paste it in the list.

I cannot decide whether to get adblock or not, I love PMC and I am getting close to my 100 post ( That was quick! ) and I don't want them to lose money gained for the ads I view ( Without a choice ) but honestly has come up to me too, I actually found this post searching up what it was. Also, do not stay on that page for any longer than to close it, as it will automagically download their fake virus crap. Right after posting here is one

How about I've had quite a few redirects that all lead to this site, one even while trying to post this comment, the URL showing generally followed by a large string of numbers and letters. Usually, these follow a similar format, but the letters and numbers vary slightly each time, so blocking just one of the variations could leave hundreds of others.

That has been happening to myself. Every time I reloaded a page on PMC it redirected me to it. It also downloaded a file called "setup.exe" which didn't install but only downloaded and that's maybe because I use mac. I ended up asking -ATOM- and he told me to come to this thread and tell what's been happening. I said what I experienced and nobody has replied or quoted my comment.

Like Paril said, the ad provider we're using doesn't allow us to exclude those kinds of ads. "18+ ads" would be pornographic which I've never seen. The various Wartune and other such ads, while racy and inappropriate for young children, are far from illegal for them to view. Besides, it's the job of the parents to protect their children from that content. The first and easiest step would be for the parents of young children to install an ad-blocking extension to prevent them from viewing inappropriate content in ads.

Lots of parents would simply not allow their kids to use PMC. There has been lots of complaints about ads since I have joined the site. Maybe this means it is time to switch to a another 3rd party ad company?

I havent ever seen any "18+ ads" here. I would hope that the ad provider has polices against that already.

I agree many parents would see the "first and easiest step" as simply disallowing their child from using the site.

I know PMC doesn't choose which ads to put on here, but you guys literally need to do something about these advertisements that are on here. The ads I have seen on here is 18+ and pmc has some young age groups even below 10. This website is subjecting young children to these adult sites which is illegal for them to see. I always loved this website but I cannot stand the fact that you guys don't even try to do anything to stop subjecting these sites to children. Its just sad in my opinion.

If it was blatantly pornographic, there's a very good chance you could be permanently banned. Don't post inappropriate ads publicly. If you're posting it to report the ad, send it to Paril privately.

I always thought most ads were based off your own internet search history and content of the pages you frequent. I'm a fairly frequent airsofter (basically paintball with a few differences) and because of that I often get adds trying to sell me guns and gear. Not sure if this is the same way for everyone but thats just a possibility

*edit* just realized the person above me just said the same thing, just longer and in more detail XD

I hate to say this but if your provider doesn't allow that content, they are doing a very POOR job lol. Just a couple days ago I saw an ad on here literally of some sort of maid that had no covering and showed the entire back side uncensored. Clicking the link would have brought me straight to an adult site. Idk what your ad providers rules are for ads but they sure aren't following them if they allowed an ad that revealed the entire backside of a female like that.
Also I do understand the thing like ad blocker, but not all people know about ad blocker and there will always be people who don't have those filters installed.

Edit: I misunderstood that first part. I thought you said the provider said they don't allow those ads, when you actually said you can't exlude them, sorry about that

We can exclude them, yes - we cannot however just point at an ad and destroy it at will. You may want to re-read my second message. Like I said, the provider itself (the third party that we deal with directly) knows what is and isn't allowed and what our audience is. Keep in mind that the ad provider gets money based on interest, clicks, etc; they are fully aware that the 8-12 demographic (which is pretty high here) aren't going to click these and they would lose money by showing them. They have zero incentive to have these show up. The problem lay with the providers that our provider deals with. My assumption is that the information is relayed to the parties who are interested in advertising on PMC (or it's just a global network with the name of the site not explicitly mentioned, which may also be what exasperates the issue), and they are responsible for making sure that they follow these guidelines else they risk losing their privileges to advertise on the network.

That being said, exactly what determines what ads appear for you is based on factors that might as well be trade secrets. Search history isn't as easy as just "what I googled" - search history is data that is compiled based on many many factors that aren't tied to you DIRECTLY, but rather your IP address and geographical location. If somebody else had your IP address in the past (dynamic IP addresses for instance) you will get varied information based on stuff that people that used to be "you" visited and searched.

It's not about what you search but rather what you visit. Google and other search engines have strict policies about data shared with third parties; they generally don't do it (after all, it's more valuable if only they have it. Advertising is a business for them). When you search for something (say, "dental work"), that data doesn't get fed directly to anybody, but once you start clicking on websites on that search list you are exposing yourself to potentially hundreds of providers who have trackers on the pages to check what kind of sites your IP address is visiting. Eventually, later on in the day, you will start seeing more dental work-related ads show up on sites that have trackers dropped on those pages.

Whether you're incognito, whether you have ad-blockers or whether you use Google/Bing/Yahoo, it really doesn't matter; this data is still being fed to companies that are interested in it.

The issue with the virus Java ads is that there's clearly somebody who is misusing their service to a pretty excessive point. We've reported at least a hundred domains to the provider and usually I only hear about any specific domain once and it is gone by the time we've reported it. Like the shifty people who push content developers to use shoddy, adware-ridden installers, it walks a very dubious legality line and the best we can do is just report it hoping that they will be able to prevent them easier later on down the road.

This link "downloads.giochimobi.com" send's me to a fake Adobe site automatically and it download's a file called "setup.exe". I checked this file on "www.virustotal.com" and to be honest I have never used this site before but this time I had to and straight away after it finished scanning the file I didn't understand what any of it meant. This link keep's on popping up when I reload a page and it only occur's on PMC and no other site.
